A month after a successful alpine backpacking adventure from Madison Falls to Sol Duc, west of here, we had to follow it up with a short trip up Tubal Cain Trail in the Buckhorn Wilderness, located in the Olympic National Forest, east adjacent to Olympic NP. This was in mid-August, when the most of the alpine plants had flowered and in the process of setting to seed and drying out.
